Support
The LGBTQ is by no means a professional welfare service. It’s true, however, that some of our members want to talk with or experience the company of other LGBTQ students at their own pace.
Coming to University is often an opportunity for new members to ‘come out’. It’s absolutely normal to want to meet other LGBTQ students in a calm place and just enjoy a quiet conversation; we can all empathise with this situation.
If you’d like the opportunity to meet our LGBTQ Committee on your terms, just let us know. You can contact us via email (lgbtq@guild.bham.ac.uk), visit us on Facebook or come to one of our popular Coffee/Befriending Afternoons on Wednesdays – see the events page for more details.
A huge part of the support provided by the LGBTQ Association is the campaigning and lobbying for human rights. So any issues, concerns or ideas about things you’d like to see change in the university contact us.
Sources of support
The subpages give information on support provided by existing services at the University of Birmingham: the University’s Counselling and Guidance Service and the Guild’s Advice and Representation Centre (“the ARC”). Both provide excellent and professional support service to LGBTQ students.
