Committee Positions
The LGBTQ Committee, as of the academic year 2008/2009, is structured thusly:

Convenor (Chair)
One position to be filled
Mandate: to motivate and organise LGBTQ students and volunteers to achieve the aims of the Association, and use the skills and resources available to make the LGBTQ an effective representative Association.
Specifically:
- To motivate, support and lead the LGBTQ committee. To chair meetings of LGBTQ committee at least every two weeks and ensure effective communication between committee and members.
- To work with the LGBTQ Officer to ensure maximum participation and real results for LGBTQ students.
- To be a diplomatic and responsible joint leader of LGBTQ students on campus.
Guild Exec Officer

Mandate: to further the interests of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer students, supported by the Guild and University in working towards the social and academic equality of all students.
Specifically:
- To work as a member of the Guild Officer Team with the Guild and University in the interest of LGBTQ Students.
- To attend Guild Council three times a term to represent to be held to account by LGBTQ students and to support the elected Guild Councillors.
- To liaise and work with local and national organisations including the NUS, LGBT* groups at other educational institutions on campaigns, events and projects to ensure social and academic quality for LGBTQ students.
- To fulfil the de-facto role of co-covenor (co-chair) on the LGBTQ committee; supporting the convenor in fulfilling the needs of LGBTQ students.
- To attend meetings of the LGBTQ committee at least once every two weeks and report on Guild, University events of interest to LGBTQ students.
Secretary
One position to be filled
Mandate: is to ensure that the LGBTQ committee is democratically supported so that members understand what we are doing and can communicate with us.
Specifically:
- To prepare for an effective committee meeting by:
- Booking a committee room.
- Distributing and compiling the agenda.
- Recording attendance.
- To attend the LGBTQ committee meeting at least once every two weeks and:
- Minute the meeting.
- Distribute minutes and meeting actions
- Publish agreed minutes for members.
- To maintain the email account and website.
Treasurer
One position to be filled
Mandate: to plan the use of the Association’s resources appropriate so that everyone can get the most out of the LGBTQ’s campaigns and events.
Specifically:
- To write and manage the budget and other finances of the LGBTQ’s projects.
- To attend LGBTQ committee meetings at least once every two weeks and report on the state of the accounts.
- To plan our applications for money to the Guild and other organisations on the committee.
Open Places
Four positions to be filled; two of which are reserved for self-defining women
Mandate: find new and exciting ways to engage LGBTQ students, so that we can represent them properly and achieve the aims of the Association.
Specifically:
- To attend LGBTQ Committee meetings at least once every two weeks.
- To bring energy and skills to achieving any or all of the aims of the Association.
- To increase participation and engagement of LGBTQ students in their Association.
- To organise LGBTQ students in effective campaigning.
- To be ambassadors for the LGBTQ Association and movement.
Guild Councillors
Two positions to be filled
Mandate: represent LGBTQ students to the decision makers of the Guild of Students, to further our priorities through Union democracy.
Specifically:
- To attend Guild Council three times a term, developing and fighting for the policies that LGBTQ students want.
- Organise a favourable commitment to LGBTQ policies in the Guild, and support LGBTQ students in other roles.
- To attend LGBTQ committee meetings at least once every two weeks and report back to Guild Council.
- To consult LGBTQ students on issues that affect them – raised at any meeting or opportunity – and report back to them.
