Current Campaigns
Below is a summary that we as an association are campaigning towards in the 2009/2010 academic year.
Faith and Sexuality
A joint project with the Chaplaincy proposed by the Methodist Chaplain to eliminate the stigma that exists as a result of conservative religious beliefs regarding sexuality. The Chaplaincy kindly invite us to join the Methodist and Anglican Societies for an evening of discussion. Free food is provided.
Careers and Employability
The stigma of LGBTQ still continues in the workplace and the issue of employability and careers is perhaps the most relevant to LGBTQ students as it directly concerns their future.
Bisexual and Trans inclusion
One of our committee and officers’ key goals this year is to challenge the notion that the LGBTQ Association is a “gay” society. In particular, the historic aversion that bisexual and trans people feel towards the association because of this unfortunate connotation.
Give Blood Because We Can’t
(Donation not Discrimination)
This is how the NUS LGBT “Donation Not Discrimination” campaign manifests itself with the LGBTQ Association. We believe that the homophobic and outdated policy of the National Blood Service should not affect those who need blood, and while we campaign for change – especially given that a review of this policy is now well underway – we encourage those who are able to give blood.
